Rooftop shade begins with the roof, not the furniture

A hotel or residential rooftop can look simple in a photo while hiding the constraints that decide a shade system: available structure, waterproofing layers, drains, parapets, wind exposure and guest/service routes. Start with the roof plan and mark the intended dining or lounge zone. A motorized retractable roof system may suit a defined opening when the support perimeter and drainage can be reviewed. A motorized aluminum pergola is another direction when a permanent post-and-frame footprint is acceptable.

Separate the three rooftop zones

  • Guest zone: tables, seats, circulation and the view to preserve.
  • Service zone: staff routes, doors, equipment and maintenance access.
